ESPR/ESN Consensus Statement published online (open access)!

ESPR and ESN published the European training guidelines for neonatologist performed echocardiography (NPE)
Despite echocardiography has already a pivotal role in NICU daily care and it is part of the core curriculum of the neonatologist, no guidelines were available until now regarding how to perform the echo, when, and how to interpret it. While the use of echocardiography is unavoidable, it also requires an important training: the Guidelines also help this point.
T   The consensus paper is entitled ‘Recommendations for Neonatologist Performed Echocardiography (NPE) in Europe and endorsed by the European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR) and European Society for Neonatology (ESN). The consensus statement was composed by a special interest group within the ESPR Circulation section with recommendations for Neonatologist Performed Echocardiography (NPE) considering the heterogeneous character of the training facilities, personnel and infrastructure across Europe. This statement is the result of discussions of relevant international experts in the fields (neonatologists and pediatric cardiologists) and is dedicated to specifically promote the use of NPE on a continental level. These recommendations have been published in the ESPR official journal ‘ Pediatric Research’ and are available as open access paper HERE
