The purpose of the Association is to bring together groups and individuals in a European organisation in order to promote the science of perinatal medicine for the benefit of a high level of physical and mental health for women, mothers and their children in Europe, in particular by:
• Promoting and disseminating the study, research and knowledge on all aspects of perinatal medicine, in order to attain, by all appropriate means, a higher level of physical and mental health for women, mothers and their children by improving the quality and provision of perinatal care in Europe;
• Contributing to the improvement of teaching standards in the profession;
• Proposing guidelines and standardising criteria for auditing, evaluation and clinical care in perinatal medicine;
• Fostering collaboration between the various disciplines interested in perinatal care as well as friendship between individuals from different European Countries.

The European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI) is the first pan-European organization and interactive network to represent the interest of preterm infants, ill newborns and their families. It gathers together parents, professionals and other stakeholders from different disciplines with the common goal of improving long-term health of preterm and newborn children by ensuring the best possible prevention, treatment, care and support.
